Thailand Highlights: Bangkok Wedding

Well hello there!

We”ve now been in Thailand for more than 2 weeks and I finally, FINALLY managed to  sit down and post about it.  We’re in Suratthani  and have a few hours to kill before boarding the train back to Bangkok.  So I just wanted to post a few highlights from our holiday.

First up in Bangkok was the big wedding we were invited to. It was huge with a few thousand guests, but we began the day in the early morning with a more intimate Buddhist ceremony at the outskirts of the city. There were monks:

And later on the groom went away and came sailing back as part of a symbolic ceremony where he had to pay his way to get in to the ‘house’ of the bride:

There was a beautiful water pouring ceremony where each and every guest got to pour water into the hands of the couple as a way of wishing them good luck for the future:

In the evening there was a big reception and party at The Royal Meridien hotel in Bangkok with lots of food and a champagne fountain:

Instead of having the bride throw the wedding bouquet, white ribbons were attached and all single people in the room were invited to come forward and take a pick. Only one was attached to the bouquet:

And here’s the happy couple. Congratulations Pim and Allan!:
